Insights and benefits from an experiment floating 14 days straight while in Edmonton.

I recently had the rare opportunity to float consistently for a total of 14 days straight at Modern Gravity while visiting Edmonton, Alberta. It was perfect timing as I was coming off a big trip and in the middle of a cross-country move dealing with all the stress and jet lag involved in that process.

This was a new experience for me as I’d only ever floated a few times in a row or in a week and never done it so frequently. I’m well aware of the compounding benefits that can occur with regular floating as I’d maintained various levels of a consistent practice, but this was taking it to a new level.

Do I recommend trying it yourself if you can? Yes!

Is it realistic to maintain a practice like this? For most people, likely not. But it would be a great way to recover from an injury or do a larger reset if you are dealing with something serious like burnout.

What happened during and between each session:

  • I found it easier to go into deeper levels of relaxation quicker each session
  • Pain from past sports injuries started to pop up again and release/heal (confirmed 6 months after)
  • A positive shift in my overall posture as my joints and muscles decompress
  • It became easier to fit the float sessions in my day as I built the daily routine of going each day
  • The post-float glow grew and went deeper between each session
  • I had a few beautiful naps during the float sessions
  • Time to process and think through the major problems I was facing during that time
  • A massive downshift in the levels of stress that I was carrying

I’m grateful for the opportunity as it was a great way to dive deeper into the benefits of sensory deprivation and floatation therapy to continue gaining more experience with this powerful wellness practice. It’s helped remind me of the importance of floating in my routines and since then, I’ve maintained a weekly practice in Montreal.

If you are getting started, it’s recommended that you try out at least 3 within about 30 to 45 days to get used to the unique environment of sensory deprivation and start to feel the full benefits of what floating has to offer.
